The Artist Red doesn’t ask your permission.

The Hamilton-born singer, songwriter and performer — known off-stage as Dionne Stanbridge — has spent her whole life pushing past the edges of what music is supposed to sound like, and she has absolutely no intention of stopping now.

It started at age seven, when she first understood what a stage could do. That instinct carried her through years of theatre and live performance — as a backing vocalist for Taupō band Back 2 Zeero at Taupō’s New Year’s Eve concert, entertaining a crowd at the A1GP Grand Prix. Then she walked away from the band — not because it wasn’t working, but because something bigger was waiting.

As The Artist Red, she made the record she was always building toward: Gemini Woman — raw, gritty, soulful, and relentlessly alive. It doesn’t sit still long enough to be boxed in, and neither does she. Her music is where rock’s uncut electricity meets the emotional gut-punch of soul, shaped by an imagination that refuses to stay in one place.

Her latest single, “In The Fall” (feat. Fragile Colours), carries that same restless fire — the sound of a woman who knows exactly what she’s made of, and isn’t afraid to show you. The Artist Red makes music for people who feel things fiercely — and who walk away from a show feeling like they can do anything.
